A CORUŅA, Aug 27 (SW) - Deportivo la Coruņa began their 2006-07 Primera
Division campaign with a 3-2 win over Zaragoza, in an entertaining
match on Sunday night.
Zaragoza needed just eight minutes to open the score at Riazor stadium
in Galicia. Diego Milito received a great pass from Ewerthon, and then
beat goalkeeper Aouate for 0-1.
But another eight minutes later, the score was levelled by Juan
Rodriguez. A strike by Riki was blocked by Cesar, but Rodriguez then
scored in the rebound.
Deportivo were given a penalty in the 36th minute, when Gabriel Milito
fouled Capdevila in Zaragoza's area. Sergio struck into the right
corner for 2-1.
The match was practically decided in the 74th minute. Capdevila found Arizmendi, who then scored from close range.
Zaragoza did get one back in the 80th minute, but could not get
another. Diego Milito sent a high ball from about fifty meters and
Oscar headed it into the area, where Ewerthon set the final score to
3-2.
The visitors had spent the last twenty minutes with only ten men on the pitch, after a red card for Juanfran.
