TURIN, Aug 21 (SW) - Fabio Cannavaro has expressed his disbelief as to
why Juventus were the only club to have been relegated in the Italian
match fixing trial.
The World Cup winning defender joined his former coach Fabio Capello at
Real Madrid after Juventus were demoted to Serie B, but was amazed that
Juve were the only side to lose their Serie A status.
“We won the Scudetto on the pitch and I can guarantee that we never had
the feeling someone was helping us from the outside,” said Cannavaro.
The 33 year old added, “I don’t understand why Juventus were the only
club to pay when there were several clubs involved in the scandal, I
think that the club is doing the right thing by continuing with their
fight for Serie A readmission.
“Even if I know this may be hard to believe, I would have stayed at
Juventus had they remained in Serie A - even with a 30-point deduction.”
Gianluigi Buffon, Pavel Nedved, Mauro Camoranesi and David Trezeguet have all remained at the club.
