AMSTERDAM, Aug 16 (SW) – Dutch giants Ajax have rejected reports that they are lining up a bid for Real Madrid midfielder Thomas Gravesen.

The club’s technical director Martin van Geel has admitted that manager Henk ten Cate is on the lookout for another midfielder to bolster his squad, but has refuted claims that the Dane is on his way to Amsterdam.

Instead, van Geel has explained the club will look to promote a youngster from within their own ranks to bolster the squad.

"That a coach wants that is understandable, but we also look closely at the development of players that are educated at Ajax," explained Van Geel.

"That is why we will not take any action, in principle, to make the squad bigger.

"I think Gravesen is being offered to almost every European club at the moment. We do not see him as the right candidate for Ajax."
