MUNICH, Aug 7 (SW) - Bayern Munich players and officials have
downplayed Saturday’s German League Cup final defeat to Werder Bremen.
The northern club won 2-0 on the strength of two goals by Croatia international Ivan Klasnic.
Nonetheless, Bayern captain Over Kahn insists that the squad should not
take the defeat in the final of the pre-season tournament too heavily.
"We mustn't over-react, we need to carry on working hard and not panic.
It was obvious we'd be found wanting in a few areas, with so many of
our players returning late from the World Cup," he said.
"I think it was obvious to everyone watching that we're a long way
off where we want to be, but that's normal after a World Cup."
Bayern coach Felix Magath added: "We kept our shape, and we weren't at all bad in the first half.
"I'm satisfied with how we played, and we put together some good
moves without getting our shots away. We always said we'd have problems
at the start of the season because of the World Cup.
“I'm sure we'll be a lot fresher when we open our Bundesliga campaign against Dortmund next week."
